Butan Medical Office Building
The design strives to provide an understated and professional image. Extended entrance canopies increase the apparent building "frontage" and provide a sense of invitation, arrival, enclosure and shelter in addition to expressing the hierarchy of the interior spatial system. The lobbies are high-volume voids formed by adjacent masses of support spaces. The glazed frames that functionally subdivide these spaces are an interplay of solid, clear and translucent panels. The system is conceived as a series of "lenses and filters" and extends to include the auto lobby canopies. The exterior translucent screen panels offer these elements add a crystalline lightness to the building. During the evening, the backlit panels provide ambience and presence to the structure. Macro reactions to the Florida climate include an east / west building axis, generous overhangs and reflective coloration.
